Waiting for their suspension systems to come downstairs.
|
Still floating on air in our exuberance
after watching the greatest reunion show of all time,
we made our way downstairs at the University Club
and out onto the street,
where two yellow buses were waiting
to take us back to the school we graduated from
half a century ago.

Some of the shock absorbers
|
For many of uswho had walked
or ridden our bikes to schoolthis
was our first ride in a school bus.
The first thing we discovered was the ingenious
suspension system in these vehicles.
Instead of wasting money providing steel springs
and shock absorbers, the designers of these
buses cleverly calculated that a few dozen
young human bodies would do just as well.
Unfortunately, sexagenarian bodies
are not quite as efficient at this task.
However, in our state of euphoria
the sound of creaking joints was
mostly drowned out by laughter.

The Alma Mater seems to have weathered the passage of time
rather wellat any rate, on the outside.

(Some of) Class 11B. We didn't all go on to become chemists.
But we were all inspired by Mr Dempster.

One of the highlights of the excursion for many of us
was a visit to the music room.

Indeed he was. And his spirit will live on as long as we do!

Before he set off to conquer the world
with his piano playing,
this is what Frank played in the school band.
